Future Leaders Visit V. Sue Cleveland High School

October 15 2008 - Jaynes Corporation hosts Youth Leadership Sandoval County with a visit to the V. Sue Cleveland High School in Rio Rancho. The newest and largest high school under construction in New Mexico, the first phase is approximately 70% complete and is scheduled to be finished on May 31, 2009. Upon completion, it will be the largest LEED certified project of its kind in the state of New Mexico.

Youth Leadership Sandoval County is a program initiative sponsored by the Rio Rancho Regional Chamber created specifically for high school sophomores and juniors. The program is designed to inspire leadership and encourage community involvement.

The program lasts ten months and the group meets once a month. Each monthly meeting has a theme. Some of the themes for this year are, Municipal Government Day, County Government/Transportation Day, Economic Development Day and Public Safety Day. There is also a Job Shadow Day where the students are matched with someone in their area of interest and are given the opportunity to observe them in their line of work.

For Education Day, The Youth Leadership Sandoval County group visited V. Sue Cleveland High School. V. Sue Cleveland High School is the newest high school, located in Northern Rio Rancho and is being constructed by the Jaynes Corporation. At approximately 70% complete, the new high school is scheduled to be finished in May 2009. Upon completion, it will be the largest LEED certified project of its kind in the state of New Mexico.

Not only is the high school energy efficient and environmentally friendly, the curriculum is structured into several career academies. It combines academic and occupational courses based on a career theme. The courses are in a smaller learning environment and in a real-world context. They will prepare the students for post secondary course work and their upcoming professions.

The Youth Leadership Sandoval County group toured the V. Sue Cleveland High School facility and saw firsthand how it will contribute to the shaping of the future of the community. From its green design and construction, to its forward thinking curriculum, V. Sue Cleveland High School will certainly launch many future leaders.
