V. Sue Cleveland High School Grand Opening

August 17 2009 - V. Sue Cleveland High School Celebrates Its Grand Opening

New Mexico's largest school project, V. Sue Cleveland High School in Rio Rancho, had its grand opening ceremonies on Saturday, August 15, 2009.

The ceremonies included presentation of the colors by the JROTC Marine Corps color guard, performances by the Cleveland High School band, the dance team, and cheerleaders. City and state dignitaries addressed the thousands in attendance about the school and its impact on the Rio Rancho community.

Phase I, which consists of the three-story main classroom building, the media center, gymnasium, fine arts classrooms, student activities center, cafeteria and kitchen, is completed. Phase II of the 416,000 square foot campus will be completed within the next six to eight weeks. Phase II includes the new Cleveland sports stadium, physical education and athletic fields, and the concert hall.

V. Sue Cleveland High School campus was designed and constructed to achieve a LEED silver certification.

Not only is the high school energy efficient and environmentally friendly, the curriculum is structured into several career academies. It combines academic and occupational courses based on a career theme. The courses are in a smaller learning environment and in a real-world context. They will prepare the students for post secondary course work and their upcoming professions.
