Global Structures broke ground on the University of New Mexico Tamarind Institute Project on Friday, June 26th. The $3M+ project is scheduled to be completed by March 2010 and is designed to achieve a LEED Silver certification.
The existing building formerly used as an annex to the School of Architecture and Planning is located on the southeast intersection of Stanford and Central and is a two-story building with a partial basement on the southern third of the building. Usable new areas within the existing shell will include lithography studios, teaching facilities, gallery, library/conference room, print storage, curating, office areas and breakroom. A new circulation core consisting of a stair and Elevator tower will include a visiting artist's apartment.
Site improvements will include the removal of the existing sculptural elements to the south of the building, and the installation of a new landscaped courtyard with planters and a steel trellis/shade structure.
