Fechin Inn
Taos, NM
Hotel
The 55,000 square-foot inn contains 85 guestrooms, bar and lounge areas, an exercise room, large meeting rooms, and an outdoor hot tub. Fireplaces, balconies, and/or patios enhance most of the guestrooms.
In the late 1920s, Russian artist Nicolai Fechin built the spectacular adobe home that now houses the Fechin Institute, located on a secluded six-acre estate. The new and separate inn is a two-story limited service hotel built in the Pueblo Revival style that reflects the exuberant spirit of the talented artist and master builder.
The inn’s lobby/public spaces contain large vigas, carved posts and beams, and outstanding reproductions of Fechin’s hand carved woodwork and furniture. Fechin’s original bold and sinewy designs are captured throughout the inn through the following details: Adzed beams and lentils; handcrafted corbels and posts; exterior plaster with exposed straw finish; unique canale design; wall buttressing; unique window transoms; hand carved staircases, balconies, and railings; built-in, hand-carved cabinetry; and hand-carved doors.
