Logan Heights Branch Library
San Diego, CA
Library and Cultural Center
The Logan Heights Branch Library is a 2-story, steel framed facility designed to serve as both a library and a cultural center. The building includes a 300 seat community room, a computer lab with 35 computers, a digital reference room with 12 computers, seminar rooms, and a cultural room for student programs.
The design is an eclectic collection of principles derived from the indigenous people of the Americas and infused with neighborhood aspirations. The Centro Cultural, the library’s public meeting room, is a 35-foot cube supported by a single column, and clad on its exterior in a checkerboard pattern of gold granite reminiscent of the stone construction of the Incas, Aztecs and Anasazi.
Construction of the new two-story library building is on an existing school site. The library will be shared use with the city and the school.
