Ari Garay, Jaynes Federal Group Project Engineer Intern, Wins Prestigious AGC Scholarship

Ari Garay, a construction engineering student at the University of New Mexico (UNM), recently shared her experiences from her nine-month internship with Jaynes Corporation’s Federal Division. Ari credits the welcoming team and mentorship from Jaynes Senior Project Manager Danielle Salazar and Jaynes Assistant Project Manager Justin Flores for her continued corporate education. “I started knowing little about construction, but every day I learned more thanks to my mentors and the supportive environment at Jaynes.”

Despite balancing a very demanding university schedule, 19 credit hours, and 20 to 25 weekly work hours at Jaynes, Ari values the opportunities Jaynes offers. Ari’s passion for construction was influenced by her father’s work as a subcontractor, despite her initial hesitation. She admits the industry’s male dominance presents challenges. “I use all that as motivation, and seeing women like Danielle succeed helps me believe I belong.”

Looking ahead, Ari plans to become a Project Manager and an advocate for women in the construction industry, building bridges for future generations. “I want women, including my daughters, to feel confident in this field.” Her drive extends to leadership on campus, where she serves as the secretary of the AGC of UNM chapter.

Ari’s advice for students: seek mentors, use challenges as fuel, and know that diversity strengthens the industry. Her story is a testament to Jaynes Corporation’s supportive culture and commitment to developing talent.
