One of the first steps of any new construction job is pouring a concrete foundation. One of the last steps is millwork – all the trim and molding and cabinets and custom-built wood details that make a space functional and beautiful. Jaynes does both. And our self-performed millwork means that our people are there, hands-on, to see every project through from beginning to end.

We started doing millwork as an extension of our concrete business: forms and reveals needed to be cut and assembled, so we began doing it ourselves. We’ve grown a lot since those days and have added increasingly skilled workers to handle increasingly complex jobs. Today, our expertise and craft are sought after throughout the Southwest to tackle the toughest millwork jobs. But our priority is always on serving our own clients first.

Embracing Complexity

Millwork is complicated. Woodworking takes skill, precision, and a thorough understanding of the materials used. Different woods require different techniques to accommodate the grain pattern, color, softness, and other properties that affect the look and feel of the finished piece. Elements like moulding, railings, and wainscoting are often the first line of defense against wear and tear, so building them with an eye toward both beauty and durability is essential.

From hospital nurse stations and front-office welcome desks to cabinetry, trim, and custom ceilings, every piece is custom-built to fit the space and functions as part of the structure. Form always follows function, and that’s true whether we’re building cabinets for a school or assembling an eye-catching ceiling as the centerpiece of a hotel lobby.

To rise to that challenge, we maintain fifty experienced millworkers on our team and a full-service 10,000-square-foot millwork shop for fabrication. With more than 77 years of experience in the business, we know what it takes to attract, train, and keep the best talent. We are an AWI-certified, QCP-licensed woodshop adhering to the highest standards of excellence in the field.  Additionally, we are an FSC certified company and can meet all of the current LEED v4 sustainability project requirements.

Because we do all of our work in-house, our team members are always available for collaboration and problem-solving – meaning issues get addressed right, and right away. Self-performing also lets us know immediately what elements can be pre-manufactured so we can build them out in advance. As soon as the space is ready, those items can be installed. This cuts down on construction time and allows us to spend more time getting the details just right.
