The Washington Post Ranks Albuquerque International Sunport as 7th Best: A Moment of Pride for Jaynes

Jaynes Corporation has a successful legacy of projects at the Albuquerque International Sunport.  These projects include a company transformative, 1.3 million square foot cement project; a 452,000 square foot renovation that upgraded the Sunport’s TSA safety and security infrastructure, and the recent and ongoing restoration of 700 of the Sunport’s beloved Pueblo Revival-style benches. Jaynes has been a proud partner in the Sunport’s expansion and steady growth for over 35 years.

The Jaynes teams that have helped build this beautiful gateway that connects New Mexico to the world are thrilled to see the Albuquerque International Sunport named the 7th best airport in the U.S.

In the Washington Post’s recent article, “The 50 best airports in America, ranked. What makes an airport special?,” the authors surveyed what passengers love most, to do a definitive ranking of the best airports in the U.S.

About the Sunport, the reviewers write, “Few airports embody their location more than the Sunport, a study in the Southwestern aesthetic. The adobe-style terminal feels as if it belongs in a local pueblo rather than the gateway to New Mexico.”

The authors go on, “Stop in the new food court after TSA for a cup of Piñon Coffee, a brew flavored with the nut of the tree that grows in the high desert. Drink it under Lincoln Fox’s impressive “Dream of Flight” sculpture. Then pick up some red or green chile before heading to the gate.”

Jaynes’ recent millwork project even gets a mention, “Take a moment in the Great Hall after check-in to soak in the vibe on one of the airport’s wood-and-leather chairs or benches. It’s ‘totally New Mexico,’ as one reader put it.”

This recognition not only reflects the Sunport’s passenger experience and regional importance, but for Jaynes, it’s also a moment of pride for everyone who’s played a part in its growth.

As one of the general contractors involved in key upgrades at the Sunport over the years, Jaynes has contributed to projects that prioritize efficiency, accessibility, and long-term value for New Mexicans.

From baggage screening improvements to terminal renovations and modernizations, Jaynes’ teams have delivered with the precision, safety, and community commitment that define Jaynes’s mission.

This ranking validates the shared vision of so many local leaders, architects, designers, and builders who’ve made the Sunport a symbol of progress and growth in New Mexico. For us at Jaynes, it’s a reminder that our community impact extends beyond our projects at the Sunport, it lives in the positive experience of every traveler who passes through the Sunport.

Congratulations to the City of Albuquerque and all the partners who have shaped the Sunport’s success. We’re honored to have helped build a part of it.
