American Home Furniture
Albuquerque’s most iconic and popular high-end furniture store, American Home Furniture, is like no other. It offers a deep catalog of furniture with a range of aesthetics drawn from top design talents worldwide. A truly community-based business since 1936, it has built a reputation for providing high-quality, first-class furniture to customers at all price levels.
Working closely with the client, and architect Modulus Architects & Land Use, the Jaynes team kept quality top of mind throughout the project to deliver a facility that matched American Home Furniture’s style and reputation. Jaynes’ 60,270-square-foot tenant improvement for American Home Furniture was delivered using the Construction Management at Risk (CMAR) delivery method.
Jaynes Structures Inc. self-performed the custom casework, including free-standing tables, re-designed cash wrap, chair display, a pre-fabricated display area, and a design center. American Home Furniture’s CEO Kenton Van Harten mentioned in the local press that the new store is a re-imagination from the company’s ground up. The client was so pleased with Jaynes’ original scope of casework that they continued to add to it. Andrew Sisneros, Director of Self-Perform Operations at Jaynes, mentions that helping the American Home Furniture management team create “a fresh, modernized take on furniture retail meant our millwork team proudly placed the highest level of quality and attention to detail into the sleek cabinets, displays, and open layout. We helped create a unique and inviting interior space that many customers have not encountered and is completely in line with their re-imagining.”
The Jaynes and Jaynes Structures Inc. team faced challenges during the construction phase. Another commercial construction project was mere feet away, so the construction site presented many logistical challenges that required strategic planning, precision, and heightened awareness. The Jaynes team overcame space constraints and complex access and egress. These space constraints could have quickly slowed down the progress of the project by impeding material delivery, storage of tools and materials, and the movement of workers. Through effective communication, project management, and meticulous scheduling with the neighboring project’s team, Jaynes answered the logistical challenges in coordinating shared access routes. Successfully managing American Home Furniture in such a tight space required exceptional organizational skills, proactive problem-solving, and collaborating effectively with the neighboring team. While challenging, overcoming these obstacles led to a rewarding experience highlighting Jaynes’ expertise and adaptability.
