IAIA Contemporary Native Arts Research Center

In collaboration with the Institute of American Indian Arts and Dyron Murphy Architects, Jaynes constructed the latest addition to the campus: the IAIA Contemporary Native Arts Research Center project.

The 9,460 square foot project introduces a comprehensive set of six fresh educational spaces, encompassing archives storage and workrooms, a collections library classroom, a distance learning classroom, a student lounge, and a distinctive storytelling room. The inclusion of the storytelling room stands out as a special feature, purposefully created to preserve the narratives shared by elders and members of the IAIA community. This storytelling room is equipped with sound isolation panels on both the walls and ceiling, serving as a dedicated sanctuary for capturing priceless oral histories and stories. Despite being connected to an occupied, existing building, the project team was able to complete the project with minimal disturbances to student life.

Jaynes’ resources played a critical role in this project as Jaynes Structures, Inc. provided self-performed services of casework in the new building.
