UNM Johnson Center Expansion & Renovation

Highly visible from Central Ave, UNM Johnson Center serves as a focal point of campus for visitors, students, and faculty alike. The facility was originally built in 1957 and was in need of renovations to modernize its infrastructure and utilities as well as keep up with contemporary needs and preferences for exercise and recreation.

The new facility includes upgraded HVAC and ventilation, a refreshed exterior facade, interior concourse for easier navigation of the space, an upgraded lobby with social spaces, and multiple expanded workout rooms for cardio, weightlifting, indoor walking/running, indoor cycling, and an expanded Bike and Outdoor Adventures Shop.

The project scope involved 100,000 gross square feet of renovation and new construction. Using our in-house BIM/VDC department and the CMAR method, our team was able to bring the project to completion 45 days early and $850,000 under budget for the Owner.
