Jaynes’ Carlsbad High School Performing Arts Center Project Earns AGC New Mexico Best Buildings Honor
Jaynes delivers award-winning K-12 construction project in Carlsbad, New Mexico, showcasing advanced BIM coordination, precision construction, and lasting community impact.
AGC New Mexico has recognized Jaynes Corporation with a Best Buildings Award for the Carlsbad High School Performing Arts Center, honoring excellence in commercial construction across the state. The project highlights Jaynes’ leadership as a New Mexico general contractor delivering complex, high-performance education facilities.
Completed in late 2025, the 84,000 square foot performing arts center serves Carlsbad Municipal Schools and the broader southeastern New Mexico community. Designed as both an academic and cultural destination, the facility reflects what’s possible when technical expertise, collaborative partnerships, and community vision align.

Using BIM and Technology in Performing Arts Center Construction
Advanced construction technology played a critical role in delivering this complex school construction project. Jaynes utilized Building
Information Modeling (BIM) and laser scanning to coordinate structural, mechanical, and theatrical systems prior to installation.
This level of precision was essential within the auditorium, where lighting, rigging, acoustics, and catwalk systems required exact alignment. By identifying conflicts early in the design phase, the team reduced rework,
protected the schedule, and ensured performance quality.
Digital lift planning further enhanced safety and efficiency, enabling the successful execution of more than 60 major panel lifts within a constrained, occupied site.
Collaborative Construction with Carlsbad Municipal Schools and NPSR Architects

The success of the Carlsbad High School Performing Arts Center was driven by strong collaboration between Jaynes, Carlsbad Municipal Schools, and NPSR Architects.
From preconstruction through completion, the team maintained transparency in cost, schedule, and decision-making.
This partnership enabled effective value engineering, balancing design intent, performance requirements, and budget considerations.
Real-time project management tools supported clear communication and rapid issue resolution, while defined roles and shared accountability kept the project aligned throughout its lifecycle. The result was a seamless construction experience and a facility that exceeded Owner expectations.

Performing Arts Center Design for Students and Community Use
The completed facility serves as a premier performing arts venue for both students and the Carlsbad community. The 1,700-seat auditorium features professional-grade acoustics, theatrical lighting, and rigging systems comparable to collegiate and municipal venues.
Supporting spaces, including rehearsal rooms, classrooms, and scene shops—provide hands-on learning opportunities for students across all aspects of performing arts production.
Beyond the school, the facility functions as a community hub, hosting regional performances, events, and cultural gatherings that extend its impact throughout southeastern New Mexico.
Architecturally, the building reflects both modern design and regional identity. Exterior materials complement the surrounding desert landscape, while interior finishes, many completed by Jaynes’ self-perform teams, demonstrate craftsmanship in elements such as acoustic paneling and architectural millwork.

Community Impact of the Carlsbad Performing Arts Center Project
As a New Mexico general contractor, Jaynes prioritizes community impact alongside construction excellence. Throughout the project, the team engaged local trade partners, supported regional workforce development, and created opportunities for students to explore careers in construction.
Careful coordination with school leadership ensured minimal disruption to daily campus life, reinforcing Jaynes’ commitment to building in active environments.
Today, the performing arts center stands as a cultural anchor in Carlsbad, a space where students develop their talents, and the community comes together through shared experiences.
